Mariners Acquire Domingo Santana from Brewers

The Mariners traded for Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Domingo Santana in exchange for outfielder Ben Gamel and minor league pitcher Noah Zavolas. General Manager Jerry Dipoto is at it again, as this is the eighth trade the Mariners have made this offseason.

Santana will have a chance to start in Seattle after having a down year in Milwaukee. Last year he was squeezed out of the Brewers’ lineup after the acquisitions of Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain. He hopes to return to his 2017 form where he slashed .278/.371/.505.

The acquisition of Santana will add another right-handed bat in the outfield alongside Mitch Haniger. The Mariners’ two other outfield bats in Jay Bruce and Mallex Smith, who were acquired earlier this offseason, are both left-handed. There’s a good chance we’ll see all four of these outfielders in the lineup during the second half of the season with one at DH, after Edwin Encarnacion is inevitably traded at or before the trade deadline.

Mariners fans will definitely miss Ben Gamel and his flow. It will not be forgotten.
